PLAYFUL 🏄♀️ + INTERNATIONAL 🗺️ + EXPERIENCED 💫
Kirsten is a Byron Bay, Australia based yoga instructor. She describes her passion for teaching saying “my approach to teaching is similar to my approach to life, being light but grounded, dedicated, mindful and aware, and understanding that personal limitations are inherent in each and every individual. With a smile and a love for teaching, I seek to challenge, inspire and release all fears from the students I teach. Students taking my class can expect to experience a blend of invigorating alignment based vinyasa, soulful yogic philosophy and deep meditation. They can also expect some loud tunes!”
Q: What advice would you give to your younger yogi self?
A: Enjoy the process hunny! Don’t worry so much about needing to do a handstand, although you’ll get there one day, try to enjoy the process more and celebrate yourself.
Q: How has yoga impacted you personally?
A: Yoga has changed my life dramatically. Yoga has impacted me physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It has been my support and my backbone through very challenging times in my life. At first when I came to yoga I loved the physicality of the practice, how challenging it was and I was so goal oriented when it came to ‘mastering’ the poses. Yoga made my body so healthy and strong. As my study of the practice deepened and my knowledge expanded, yoga changed the way I saw the world and myself.
Q: How does your personal life impact your craft of teaching?
A: I will always teach my yoga classes from the heart, so whatever I am going through personally and the lessons that I have learned on my spiritual journey I use as inspiration when teaching yogic philosophy.
Q: Can you share your most embarrassing or funny teaching moment?
A: My funniest teaching moment was when I was teaching a packed class in Byron Bay in summer, it was so so hot in the room I opened up all the doors behind my mat. In front of the doors were long white curtains, when I sat down to speak to the class a big gust of wind blew the curtains and they somehow all wrapped around me. I then got stuck in the curtains and the class thought it was very funny!
Q: Besides yoga, what are some other things you’re passionate about?
A: I absolutely love surfing! I run women’s yoga and surfing retreats around the world and am very passionate about empowering women in the water.
Q: How do you handle stress and pressure?
A: I handle stress and pressure through meditation. There is NOTHING that I love more, that brings me back to the earth, back to my body and back into my heart like meditation does. For me if I can feel any anxiety or stress coming of already present in my body, I know it’s time to sit to find my centre and softness again.
