Variations and Modifications

Half Lotus Pose

Place one foot on the opposite thigh while keeping the other foot beneath the opposite knee or thigh. This variation provides many of the benefits of Lotus Pose while requiring less hip flexibility.

Supported Seat

Sit on a folded blanket, cushion, or bolster to elevate the hips above the knees. This support helps maintain a natural curve in the spine and reduces pressure on the knees and ankles.

Bound Angle Preparation

Practice Bound Angle Pose (Baddha Konasana) before Lotus Pose to gently open the hips and inner thighs. This preparation can improve comfort and mobility for seated postures.

Embody the Pose

Lotus Pose (Padmasana) is a classic seated posture that symbolizes balance, tranquility, and spiritual awareness. With the legs crossed and the spine tall, this pose creates a stable foundation for meditation and breathwork while encouraging openness in the hips and ease throughout the body. Through stillness and mindful breathing, Padmasana cultivates inner peace, focus, and a deeper connection between body, mind, and spirit.
